Joining a Group Flight: Practical Etiquette
Tips for participating in Delta Virtual group flights whether online or offline.
Before the group flight
Group events are a way to fly with other Delta Virtual pilots. Check the event announcement for meeting time, time zone, airports, aircraft requirements, and any online-network requirement.
If no network is required, ordinary Delta Virtual membership does not force you to use VATSIM or IVAO. A particular event may still make online participation a condition for event credit.
A helpful preflight routine
- Read the route and special rules.
- Install any needed scenery, charts, or simulator updates early.
- Prepare the aircraft and flight plan before the official departure time.
- Check the correct Discord event channel or other published briefing location.
- Test your microphone and client if you'll use online ATC.
- Be ready to follow the event lead's coordination instructions without disrupting other pilots.
During the flight
- Give controllers clear, concise radio calls.
- Follow network regulations and valid ATC clearances.
- Do not assume formation flying or group departures are authorized in controlled airspace.
- Keep voice-chat chatter separate from active ATC communications when practical.
- If you need to step away, follow the network's current unattended-operation requirements.
After landing
Submit your PIREP, check event credit, and report issues through an official support channel.
Good etiquette helps everyone enjoy the event, including pilots who are participating for the first time.
