Flying Online With VATSIM or IVAO
Understand optional online flying and which rules take priority.
Is online flying required?
No. VATSIM, IVAO, and other supported online ATC networks are encouraged but not required for normal Delta Virtual flights. Certain published group flights or events may have separate network requirements.
Which rules should I follow?
The network's current rules and valid ATC instructions take priority over a normal Delta Virtual guideline when the two conflict. You remain responsible for complying with the network's requirements, including rules for unattended flights.
Before connecting
- Read the network's current rules and introductory material.
- Prepare your callsign and flight plan as required by the network.
- Check your aircraft, position, and communications equipment.
- Be ready to communicate with controllers while connected.

Do online flights count differently?
Normal Delta Virtual flight rules and PIREP requirements still apply. Network history can also help support a manual PIREP when ACARS fails, but online flying is not mandatory for manual-review evidence.
